Before you start

  • Use the email account or message destination where the Sender delivered the invitation.
  • Confirm that you expected a document from the named Sender before opening the link.
  • Do not use a link forwarded from another Recipient. Each private link is tied to one Recipient email address.

Open your signing page

  1. Check the invitation context

Review the Sender name, document purpose, and message. If the request is unexpected, confirm it with the Sender through a contact method you already trust.

  2. Confirm the link belongs to you

Make sure the invitation was delivered specifically to your email address or private message destination.

  3. Open the private link

Select the signing link and check that the browser opens a Sign For Free page over HTTPS.

  4. Enter the Recipient email

Enter the exact email address that received the invitation. It must match the Recipient on the Envelope.

  5. Review the Envelope before signing

Confirm that the document and assigned fields are the ones you expected, then continue only if they are correct.

What happens next

After the email matches the Recipient record, you can review and complete the Signature, Date, Text, or Stamp fields assigned to you. No Sign For Free account is required.

Warnings and limitations

  • Never post a private signing link in a public channel or send it to everyone in the Envelope.
  • Email matching helps limit a link to its assigned Recipient, but it is not strong identity verification.
  • A private link may stop working after the Envelope is completed, expires, or is otherwise no longer available.
  • The Envelope expires 72 hours after creation, regardless of when you received the link.

Troubleshooting

The email does not match
Check spelling, aliases, and the address that received the invitation. If the Sender entered a different address, ask the Sender to create a new Envelope with the correct email address.
The link is broken or incomplete
Open the original message and select the full link again. If it still fails, ask the Sender to send the private link intended for you.
The Envelope is expired
The existing Envelope cannot accept another signature after its lifecycle ends. Ask the Sender what document process should follow.
The document is unexpected
Do not sign. Confirm the request directly with the Sender using contact information you already know.

Still need help?

Contact the Sender through a trusted channel and ask the Sender to confirm your Recipient email and resend only your private link.
